About Tanya Mau

My yoga journey began over 20 years ago. Over the years, I have practiced many styles of yoga including Hatha, Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Iyengar. Although I initially began practicing yoga for the physical benefits, over time, I found the value of yoga for calming the mind. I have completed a 200 hour training with Mary Bastien of Open Space Yoga. I have also completed a 300 hour advanced yoga teacher training in classical Hatha Yoga and went on an inspirational retreat to India with teacher Yogi Charu in 2018. I recently completed Aerial yoga training with Yoga Under the Palms.

Yoga has been my constant throughout life’s ups and downs, while balancing a demanding career as a mentor, professional development facilitator, and social justice advocate in Hawaii’s public schools. When I am not teaching (in the classroom or in the yoga room), I can be found hiking or adventuring with my two teenage sons. Yoga has taught me how to be more grounded, balanced, and fearless, both on and off the mat. What I love about yoga is that there is always something more to learn and grow in. I am passionate about sharing my love of yoga with everyone, from kindergarteners to adults, while recognizing that I am first and foremost a student. I am fortunate to be able to share the knowledge that my teachers have shared with me, through practices that are accessible to all levels, focusing on the breath and proper alignment to create balance in the body. One of my favorite parts about teaching is ending class with meditation, bringing steadiness and openness to the mind.
