About Open Mind Yoga Hawai’i:
Open Mind Yoga Hawai‘i is a 501c3 non-profit founded by Summer and Corey Rothwell, the owners of Yoga Under the Palms and the parents of two boys with Autism.
Our journey, like so many other families with kids on the spectrum, has been challenging and frustrating. Awareness is great, but what we really need are options – things to do outside of our home, places to go as a family and activities for our children.
We are starting small with a few classes/week but our goal is to grow to be an after school and weekend resource for kids to attend with their RBT or parent where they can do aerial yoga, sensory play and social activities.
Why aerial yoga? The aerial hammock and its movement provides a therapeutic sensory experience that can help body awareness, motor planning, attention/focus, core strength, coordination, motor skills, vestibular input, proprioception and tactile input. The hammock also creates a boundary and allows kids to participate in a group activity from their own protected and defined space.
Schedule: Tuesday 3:30pm at Yoga Under the Palms Kaka’ako, Thursday at 2:45pm at Yoga Under the Palms Kailua. Sign up for these classes from our yoga schedule page and look for SPED Aerial.
Price: $12 / class. Group Rates are available for ABA agencies, home school groups and community organizations. Private classes are also available and a great way to introduce your child to aerial yoga in a personalized environment.
Who can attend: This class is designed for people with special needs to attend with a parent/caregiver or RBT. These classes are open to all ages. Please note that we do not have an elevator and our aerial rooms are only accessible via stairs.
